An Outline Of
Blepharoplasty Surgery
Often time
blepharoplasty surgery is done in an outpatient setting. The location however, would differ starting from the
surgeon’s own clinic to accredited outpatient centers or probably in the hospital where the surgeon is accredited.
In addition, if the patient would like to request for a combined enhancement procedure, the doctor would have to
require the patient to stay at least one night in the hospital. In this case, you can expect that the total amount
of the surgery would increase due to the added hospital fee.
Blepharoplasty Surgery Process
Blepharoplasty surgery involves some incision
usually crafted in the patient’s eyelid following its natural lines. This is done to reduce the appearance of the
scars. For surgery on upper eyelids, incisions will likely be crafted in the folds of the patient’s upper lids.
However, with lower eyelid, the surgeon would make an incision right below the patient’s lashes. There are also
cases where the surgeon would extend the incision up until the laugh lines at the outer angles of the patient’s
eyes to minimize their appearance.
The next step would be, the surgeon will detach the skin directly
from the tissue and then the extra fat will be excised. The remaining excess skin will also be excised and the
muscle will be trimmed. Finally, the surgeon will secure the incisions through fine sutures.
On the other hand, there is also a different blepharoplasty
technique purposely designed for patients who have pocket of fats below their eyes with no sagging skin. Such
blepharoplasty technique is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty.
Transconjunctival blepharoplasty is done by making an incision
inside the patient’s lower eyelid since the goal is to eliminate fats only, not sagging skin. This method however,
is commonly employed on patients who are still young whose skin is fairly elastic.
